‘One Forty One’ won the first ever nationwide internet battle of the bands hosted by a major label in 1998, garnering them a development deal with Sony. Brit pop inspired ‘ide’ released ‘Apologies For Spilling Paint’ on Fabtone Records in Japan in 2006 and had songs ‘Tired of Waiting’ placed on ABC Family’s ‘Greek’ and ‘Something Going On’ placed on hit show ‘Kyle XY’ which is still currently in syndication around the world. They released the EP ‘A Clear Light’ in 2008 and were later courted by Decca Records in NY.
From ‘ide’ emerged a more raucous, energetic power trio ‘The Antennas’ who put out their self-titled debut on Popjinx Records in London in 2009, releasing the single and video for ‘You Really Bring Me Down’ in the UK and Europe. They followed up with the full length ‘Fax Armada’ in 2011.
Currently, Layne plays trumpet, guitar and sings with ‘kindie rock’ band ‘The Happy Racers’ who feel that children’s music can still be fun without being dumbed-down or overly silly and parents everywhere rejoice! They incorporate music education with literacy in public school systems across the U.S.
Layne currently teaches instrumental music, conducts private lessons and directs bands part time at Christ Presbyterian Academy in Nashville and continues songwriting for pitching to artists, tv and film. He instructs in trumpet, voice, basic guitar, bass, piano and music theory.
